Marrakech, located in Morocco, is characterized by a dry subtropical climate with desert features. This means you will find an abundance of sunny days throughout the year and very low precipitation. The city experiences significant temperature fluctuations between seasons, as well as between daytime and nighttime readings, especially in the winter months.

In Marrakech, two main seasons are clearly defined: a very hot and dry summer and a mild winter, when light precipitation is also possible. Summer, especially from June to September, is characterized by high temperatures that often rise above 30°C during the day (reaching as high as 36.5°C in July and August), and a near-total absence of rain. Winters, from December to February, are much cooler, with average daytime temperatures around 19-21°C, though nights can be quite cold, with temperatures dropping to 5-7°C. Spring and autumn are pleasant transitional periods with comfortable warm weather.

Precipitation in Marrakech is a rare and scarce phenomenon throughout the year. Even in the "wettest" months, such as March (with 2 mm of rainfall), the amount is minimal, and the number of rainy days is small. Summer months, especially July, are almost completely devoid of rain. Such weather makes Marrakech an ideal destination for sun lovers, but it is important to remember the intense heat at the summer peak and the need to bring warm clothes for cool winter evenings and morning hours.

The climate of Marrakech demonstrates significant temperature fluctuations throughout the year. The hottest months are undoubtedly July and August, when the average daytime temperature stays steadily at 28.1°C and 28.5°C respectively, and maximum values regularly rise to 36.5°C. During these summer peaks, the heat can be very intense. Conversely, the coolest months are January, with an average temperature of around 12.0°C and nightly minimums dropping to 4.9°C, and December, where the average temperature is 13.2°C and nights can also be quite fresh (around 6.3°C).

The summer period in Marrakech, spanning the months from June to September, is characterized as very hot and dry. Daytime temperatures in June already reach 31.5°C, and in July and August, the heat peak occurs in the afternoon hours when the thermometer can show 36.5°C. Nights bring some relief but remain warm: minimum temperatures in July and August are around 19.7°C - 20.5°C. A significant difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, reaching 15-17°C, is a characteristic feature of the desert climate. There is virtually no precipitation during the summer months, which intensifies the feeling of dry heat.

Winter in Marrakech, from December to February, offers much milder conditions, although with noticeable daily temperature drops. During the day, the air warms up to a comfortable 19-21°C (for example, in January the maximum temperature is around 19.0°C, in February – 21.3°C), making this time pleasant for walks and excursions. However, nights and early morning hours can be quite cool, with temperatures dropping to 4.9°C in January and 6.8°C in February. The difference between the maximum and minimum temperature in the winter months is also significant, often exceeding 10-14°C, so having warm clothes for the evening and night hours will be very useful.

Precipitation in Marrakech is characterized by extreme scarcity throughout the year, but a certain seasonality in its distribution can be identified. The city does not have a clearly defined rainy season in the usual sense, but there are periods with a slightly higher probability of precipitation compared to absolutely dry months.

The highest amount of precipitation, though still very insignificant, occurs from late autumn to early spring. March stands out as the "wettest" month, receiving an average of 2 mm of rainfall, which is distributed over approximately 9 days. February (1 mm, 5 rainy days) and April (1 mm, 7 rainy days) also show a small number of rainy days with minimal precipitation. It is important to understand that even during these periods, rains are usually very light and short-lived.

Summer months in Marrakech are characterized by a near-total absence of precipitation. The period from June to September can safely be called a dry season. The absolute minimum occurs in July, when on average not a single millimeter of precipitation falls and not a single rainy day is recorded. June, August, and September are also virtually rainless, with zero precipitation and only a couple of days per month (0-2 days) when moisture traces are theoretically possible, but not full-fledged rain.

Thus, the annual precipitation cycle in Marrakech represents a long dry and hot period in summer, followed by a mild winter and spring, when the probability of insignificant and rare rains is slightly higher, but the total amount of moisture remains minimal. Travelers should expect predominantly sunny weather all year round, even if the trip falls during the months with the highest number of formally "wet" days.

When planning a trip to Marrakech, it is important to pack a wardrobe that suits its sunny and predominantly dry climate. For the summer months, especially from June to September, when daytime temperatures can rise above 35°C (for example, to 36.5°C in July and August), focus on light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Loose shirts, T-shirts, shorts, skirts, and light trousers will help you handle the heat more easily, as there is virtually no precipitation during this time. Don't forget a head covering for sun protection, sunglasses, and a high SPF sunscreen, as the sun is very strong here. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, as you will be doing a lot of walking through the streets of the medina.

In winter (December to February) and the transitional seasons (spring and autumn), the weather in Marrakech is more variable, with a noticeable difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures. During the day, it can be pleasantly warm (maximum temperatures around 19-23°C), but evenings and early mornings can be cool, with temperatures dropping to 5-10°C (for example, to 4.9°C in January). Therefore, the principle of layering clothes will be your best friend. Bring T-shirts, long sleeves, a light sweater or fleece, and a jacket (for example, a mid-season jacket or windbreaker). Although precipitation is rare here (no more than 1-2 mm per month, except for March with 2 mm), and the number of "wet" days is small (from 0-2 in summer to 9 in March), a very light, compact raincoat or a small umbrella may come in handy, especially if you are traveling between January and April.
